About Conditor alme siderum, Apt 19

This setting of the ancient Latin text Conditor alme siderum for three voices (Alto, Tenor, Bass) is a striking example of a sacred office hymn. The music moves with a sense of devotional purpose, the three parts weaving together to create a rich harmonic texture. The text, a prayer to Christ as the creator and redeemer, addresses him as the eternal light of believers, the saviour of the world, and the one whose power all creation acknowledges. It petitions him to preserve believers from the attacks of the faithless, concluding with a doxology to the Trinity. This is a powerful setting of a profoundly spiritual text.
