About Concussum est mare

Thomas Mancinus was a composer of sacred music active in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. This motet, Concussum est mare, is written for double choir (SATB.SATB), offering rich polyphonic possibilities. The Latin text, drawn from scripture, describes the sea being shaken and the earth trembling at the descent of the Archangel Michael from heaven, a dramatic moment heralded by Alleluia. The music explores the intensity of this biblical event, with the two choirs interacting to create a powerful and sonically impressive setting. It is a substantial work from the repertory of Renaissance motets.
