Alessandro Striggio's Con l'aura de sospir is a secular madrigal for SATTB voices. The text speaks of a growing sorrow in the singer's heart, nourished by sighs and tears, which has taken root like an ungrateful laurel tree. This tree denies any fruit or flower, and even the shade of its holy branches, prompting the singer to ask Love to uproot and transplant it from where it was placed. Striggio's setting captures the emotional depth of the words with rich vocal textures.
