Con la candida man

The singer laments a wound inflicted by Filli, whose fair hand, urged by Love, struck the singer and clasped them to her breast. The sweet pain of this wound stole the singer's soul, and in response, they kissed the lash and adored the punishment. This is a secular Italian aria that explores themes of love's bittersweet power and the singer's willing surrender to its consequences. Composed by Constantijn Huygens, this solo setting captures the emotional intensity of the text, making it a compelling choice for a single voice.
