Come raggio di sol

Antonio Caldara composed this Italian secular aria for solo soprano and solo bass. The text uses the imagery of sunlight resting on calm waters to contrast with the hidden storm beneath. Similarly, a cheerful smile can mask a heart that is secretly anguished and tormented. The music likely reflects this duality, with moments of outward beauty concealing deeper emotional currents. Caldara was a prolific composer of operas and oratorios, and this aria showcases his skill in setting dramatic and expressive texts for solo voices.
