Come Out of Your Shell by Charles West — Lyrics
You can’t hide forever from the world
It will come knocking at your door.
As the sunrays stream through the trees,
God will come looking and implore
By touching your heart and your soul,
God will help you swim back to the shore.
So come out of your shell ! Wake up, dear heart !
Stride out on the sunbeams back to Earth.
Speak of forgiveness from your heart.
Give love a new chance for rebirth

About Come Out of Your Shell
Charles West’s Come Out of Your Shell is a vibrant SAATB setting of an English text that urges us to shed our inhibitions and embrace life. The music opens with a sense of gentle invitation, soon blossoming into a more confident and expansive declaration. The secular part-song explores themes of overcoming fear and isolation, encouraging the listener to emerge from their inner world and connect with others. The text speaks of forgiveness and rebirth, with imagery of sunbeams and angels, ultimately leading to a powerful affirmation of self-worth and freedom from past burdens. It’s a piece designed to inspire and uplift, with demanding yet rewarding vocal writing across the five parts.
