Come, Holy Ghost, our hearts inspire

This anthem opens with a noble and soaring melody, sung first by the sopranos and then taken up by the other voices in turn. The text, a traditional hymn, is a prayer for the Holy Spirit to inspire and illuminate the hearts and minds of believers. The SATB voicing allows for rich harmonic writing, particularly in the later verses where the text speaks of knowing God and sounding the depths of divine love. The music effectively conveys the sense of divine inspiration and spiritual illumination sought in the words, creating a powerful and uplifting devotional experience.
