About Collegium Imperialis
Francis Melville's Collegium Imperialis sets the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, traditionally sung at Evensong. The Latin text of the Magnificat, Mary's song of praise, speaks of God's power and mercy, lifting up the humble and filling the hungry, while the Nunc Dimittis is Simeon's song of thankfulness upon seeing the Christ child. Melville has crafted a work for double choir (SATB.SATB) with a prominent tenor solo, allowing for a rich and varied sonic palette suitable for liturgical or concert settings. The composer's setting of this ancient text provides a grand and devotional experience.
