Clori gentil

Giovanni Artusi's Clori gentil is a delightful example of the Italian canzonetta tradition for four voices (SSAT). The music opens with a gentle, flowing melodic line passed between the upper voices, soon joined by the lower parts in a close, imitative texture. The composer crafts a sense of tender lament, with the voices often weaving together homophonically to underscore moments of pathos.
