Circumdederunt me by Heinrich Isaac — Lyrics
About Circumdederunt me
Heinrich Isaac, a prominent composer of the late 15th and early 16th centuries, wrote this sacred motet for multiple SATB, STTB, and ATTB choirs. The Latin text, taken from the Introit for the Mass of the Dead, speaks of being surrounded by the groans of death and the pains of hell, and of calling upon the Lord in tribulation. The composer's setting emphasizes the plea for deliverance and the hope of being heard from God's holy temple. This polyphonic work offers a powerful and dramatic expression of faith in the face of suffering.
