About Christus resurgens (Egerton MS)
This potent setting of a Latin text for three voices (Alto, Tenor, Tenor) rings with the triumph of Christ’s resurrection. The antiphon extols the victory over death, proclaiming that Christ, having died for our sins, now lives for God and will die no more. The second part directly challenges the disbelief of the Jews, questioning how the guards at the tomb could have lost the King, and urging them to either return the buried Lord or adore the risen one, joining the faithful in singing Alleluia. Dating from the medieval period, this sacred antiphon comes from the Egerton Manuscript and is presented here in its original staff notation.
