Christus factus est

This setting of Christus factus est for SSATB voices explores the profound obedience of Christ to his crucifixion. The text, drawn from Philippians 2:8-9, describes Christ's willing submission to death, even the death of the cross. The composer Michael J. Drake, Jr. has set this solemn Latin text in a motet style. Following the initial statement of Christ's obedience, the music expands to include the antiphonal text, 'Propter quod et Deus exaltavit illum et dedit illi nomen, quod est super omne nomen' ('Wherefore God also hath exalted him, and hath given him a name which is above every name'), reflecting the exaltation that followed his sacrifice.
