Christ the Lord is risen today by Edward Vine Hall — Lyrics
Christ the Lord is risen today,
Christians, haste your vows to pay,
For the sheep the Lamb hath bled,
Sinless in the sinner's stead;
Christ is risen today we cry;
Now He lives no more to die.
Christ the victim undefiled,
Man to God hath reconciled;
Whilst in strange and awful strife,
Met together Death and Life;
Christians, on this happy day
Haste with joy your vows to pay.

About Christ the Lord is risen today
This triumphant setting of the well-known Easter hymn rejoices in Christ's resurrection. The text vividly portrays the victory of life over death and the reconciliation of humanity with God through Christ's sacrifice. Edward Vine Hall's anthem for SATB choir, sung in English, captures the exultant spirit of Easter. The music likely mirrors the text's message of hope and victory, urging Christians to 'haste with joy your vows to pay' in celebration of the risen Lord, who 'lives and reigns for evermore'.
