About Christ ist erstanden
Bartholomeus Gesius sets a German text that is a well-known Easter hymn, adapted from the sequence Victimae paschali laudes. The composer's SATB setting expresses the joy of Christ's resurrection, a central tenet of Christian faith. The opening stanza declares Christ has risen from all suffering and will be our comfort, prompting joy. The second stanza emphasizes the world's salvation through his resurrection, leading to praise.
