Christ is risen by John Goss — Lyrics
Christ is risen from the dead and become the firstfruits of them that slept. Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb, for ever and ever. Amen.
About Christ is risen
John Goss’s anthems were a staple of Victorian church music, and Christ is Risen is a fine example of his accessible and uplifting style. Written for SATB choir, this anthem sets a powerful biblical text from 1 Corinthians 15 and Revelation 5. The music reflects the triumphant message of Christ’s resurrection, with soaring melodies and rich harmonies that build to a majestic conclusion. The text speaks of Christ as the first-fruits of the dead, proclaiming blessings and glory to God and the Lamb. This piece is well-suited for Easter services and other occasions celebrating Christ's victory over death, offering a stirring and confident declaration of faith.
