About Christ fuhr gen Himmel
Jacob Meiland was a German composer of the late Renaissance, known for his sacred motets. This SATTB setting of Christ fuhr gen Himmel, a German text, is a fine example of the genre. The lyrics describe Christ's ascension into heaven and the sending of the Holy Spirit as a comforter to all Christendom. The motet captures the joy and devotion of the text, moving from the narrative of the ascension and commission of the disciples to a triumphant Halleluja and a concluding affirmation of Christ's role as our solace.
