About Ch'io mora?
The poet Giambattista Marino's words speak of a lover's desire for death to be accompanied by sorrow from his beloved, finding solace in the thought that her tears might revive him. Ascanio Mayone's setting of this text is for SATTB voices, creating a rich vocal texture perfect for madrigal ensembles. This secular Italian work explores the passionate and dramatic sentiments of the Renaissance.
