Chi brama di veder le stelle in terra

Giovanni Vincenzo Macedonio was a composer of secular Italian madrigals. This work is written for SATTB choir. The text speaks of a lover who wishes to see stars on earth, and suggests that to do so, one should look into the eyes of his beloved. He goes on to muse that if one desires to see the stars in heaven, one should look at the stars themselves, but then compares them unfavourably to his lady's eyes, suggesting they are perhaps less beautiful. This poem explores themes of adoration and idealized beauty, a common subject in the madrigal tradition.
