About Che giova saettar
Innocentio Alberti's Che giova saettar is an example of secular Italian madrigal part-music from the Renaissance. Written for SATTB voices, it explores the themes of unrequited love and the futility of further suffering. The text expresses the lover's plea to the archer (representing Love) to cease his attacks, as the heart is already so wounded that new pain cannot be inflicted. It's a dramatic and emotional reflection on the torment of love, characteristic of the madrigal genre's expressive power.
