Charming Beauty Bright by MB Krueger — Lyrics
Charming Beauty Bright!
Once I courted a fair beauty bright,
And on her I placed my whole heart's delight;
I courted her for love, and her love I did obtain.
Do you think I've any reason of love to complain?
Doo doo doo…
Then I determined to her father's to go
If my true love had forgot me, yes or no,
this reply tears in her eyes:
"I never will forget you until the day I die."
Doo doo doo…
Charming Beauty Bright!
When her old father came to know
That me and his daughter together would go,
He locked her up and kept her so severe
That I never more caught sight of poor Beauty my dear.
Doo doo doo…

About Charming Beauty Bright
MB Krueger's Charming Beauty Bright is a setting of a poignant English folk song text. Written for SATB choir, it recounts a bittersweet tale of love and separation. The narrative follows a suitor who wins the love of his 'fair beauty bright' only for her father to intervene, locking her away. The suitor then embarks on a quest for fortune and fame, leaving the listener to wonder about the ultimate fate of the lovers. This piece captures the traditional storytelling of folk music, exploring themes of devotion, parental opposition, and the longing for a lost love.
