About Changeons propos a4

Claudin de Sermisy was a leading composer of French chansons in the first half of the 16th century. This secular four-voice setting, Changeons propos, reflects the genre's typical light and witty character. The text, a celebration of the vine and the tools used to cultivate it, praises the 'Serpette' (pruning knife) as essential for winemaking. It tells a playful story of Vulcan forging the knife, Bacchus endorsing its use, and even Noah using it to plant the first vine. The SATB voicing provides a rich texture for this delightful pastoral scene, characteristic of Renaissance part-music.
