About Cestou, op. 2
This setting for SSAA voices captures the evocative imagery of Czech poetry, exploring themes of nature and human emotion. The first song, První sníh, presents the gentle descent of the first snow upon a barren landscape, a quiet transformation that brings a sense of familiarity and even melancholy as it blankets the earth and prepares for a new grave. The second, Oral v poli, speaks of love being ploughed into the earth, a poignant reflection on past affections and a heart hardened by sorrow. Finally, Len depicts the slow, patient process of spinning flax into linen, hinting at the anticipation of a finished garment and the skill of the weaver. František Pícha's composition offers a thoughtful musical interpretation of these lyrical narratives.
