CATENA (Marian) by Emma Orji — Lyrics
About CATENA (Marian)
"Catena (Marian)" is a vibrant Igbo choral setting of the Catena Legionis, the central daily prayer of the Legion of Mary. The piece opens with the famous Marian antiphon, asking "Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising?" (Onye bụ nwanyị ahụ n'apụta n'isi ụtụtụ), capturing the awe and reverence of the original text. The choir then transitions into a full, nine-verse rendition of the Magnificat, Mary's great song of praise to God.
For Catholic choirs, especially those with strong ties to the Legion of Mary, this arrangement offers a joyful way to sing the daily obligation. Emma Orji's solfa composition gives each verse of the Magnificat its own distinct melodic treatment, allowing the choir to proclaim God's mercy and greatness with energy. It is a fitting piece for Marian feast days, Legionary gatherings like the Acies, or any moment of devotion to the Blessed Mother.
