About Care lagrime mie
Philippe de Monte's Care lagrime mie is a five-part (SAATB) secular Italian madrigal from the Renaissance. The text, lamenting the singer's unheeded suffering, implores tears to soften a heart unmoved by sorrow. If the tears cannot penetrate the hardened core, they are then asked to grow in intensity so that the singer may drown in their own weeping. Monte masterfully uses the vocal lines to reflect the emotional turmoil and desperation expressed in the text, creating a poignant musical setting of this expressive poetry.
