Care amate by Loreto Vittori — Lyrics
Care amate pupille,
un guardo solo volgete,
in questo sen'
e dare tregu' al duolo
che l'alma assale ondio
nevengo men'.
Io poi diro luci Seren'e liete
che con un vostro sguardo
voi raddolcir, voi ravvivar potete,
un cor trafitto da pungente dardo.

About Care amate
This is a solo aria for soprano, drawn from the secular Italian repertoire of the Baroque. The text expresses the poet's yearning for a single glance from his beloved 'pupils' (eyes), which he believes can bring solace to his tormented soul. He describes how their loving gaze can sweeten his suffering and revive a heart pierced by love's dart. The music would be suited for a recital or intimate concert setting, where the expressive qualities of the solo voice can be fully appreciated. It offers a chance to explore the affective nature of the Italian Baroque style through a personal and intimate text.
