About Canto de la sibila
Cristóbal de Morales was a leading composer of sacred polyphony in the Spanish Renaissance. The Canto de la Sibila is a liturgical drama, a medieval tradition that dramatized prophecies of the Last Judgment. This responsory is set for SATB voices in Spanish, describing the terrifying Day of Judgment, when all will be judged for their deeds. It calls for souls to rise from the dead to face a cruel sentence, with sins revealed without speech. The text concludes with an plea to the Virgin Mary to intercede with her Son on behalf of humanity, asking for salvation.
