Cantique du soir (Frères moraves)

This anonymous motet paints a nocturnal scene of repose and profound sleep, personifying it as a symbol of death. The SATB choir then offers a heartfelt prayer that the soul may ascend to God in dreams and continue to pray at dawn, finding its ultimate awakening in heaven. The French text, clearly devotional, is set with a gentle solemnity, reflecting the sacred nature of the contemplation on life, death, and spiritual renewal. This is sacred part-music, suitable for reflective moments.
