The texture moves fluidly between homophonic declamation and moments of independent melodic writing, creating a rich and devotional sound. Its French text, a prayer adapted from Jean Racine, is a plea for divine grace and salvation. The choir's opening lines invoke the "Word, equal to the Most High," seeking illumination and deliverance from spiritual slumber. Later verses implore Christ to favor the faithful gathered to praise him, asking that they receive his blessings and return filled with his gifts.
