About Cantate Domino
The words of this joyful motet, sung in Latin, are taken from the Psalms and Old Testament, calling for a new song of praise to God. The text urges celebration, with Israel rejoicing in its maker and the sons of Zion exulting in their king. It bids us praise his name with singing, on the timbrel and harp. The composer, Giovanni Francesco Anerio, sets this jubilant scripture for SATB choir, reflecting the text's message of God's pleasure in his people and the exaltation of the humble.
