Cantate Domino by Ottavio Vernizzi — Lyrics
About Cantate Domino
Ottavio Vernizzi was a composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. This sacred motet, Cantate Domino, is written for double choir (SATB.SATB) and is set in Latin. The text is drawn from the Book of Isaiah, proclaiming "Sing unto the Lord, for he hath done excellent things; this is known in all the earth. Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee." Vernizzi's setting reflects the jubilant and exultant nature of the text, calling for praise and rejoicing to God for his mighty deeds. The demanding double-choir texture allows for rich, antiphonal effects and a grand, sonorous sound.
