About Cantate Domino
Hans Leo Hassler's Cantate Domino is a powerful sacred motet written for an impressive double choir of SSATB and AATTB. The Latin text, drawn from Psalm 96, is a call to sing a new song to the Lord, proclaiming his glory and wonders among all nations. The composer urges the singers to announce his salvation daily and to bring Him glory and honour. The verses speak of God's greatness, his might over all other gods, and his creation of the heavens. Hassler's setting masterfully reflects the grandeur and exultation of the text, creating a resplendent sound world befitting the spiritual message.
