About Cantate Domino
A jubilant setting of Psalm 98.1, Cantate Domino canticum novum, this motet offers rich opportunities for a large choir, scored for SSATTB. Its Latin text, proclaiming 'Sing to the Lord a new song', invites a grand and celebratory performance, perhaps for a festival occasion. The music likely reflects the joyful exultation and thanksgiving called for in the words. Gabussi's work in this genre typically draws on the Venetian polychoral tradition, suggesting a powerful and sonorous effect when sung by a substantial ensemble, filling the performance space with vibrant praise.
