Cantate Domino by Giovanni Rovetta — Lyrics
Canticum ipsi David, quando domus aedificabatur post captivitatem.
Cantate Domino canticum novum; cantate Domino omnis terra.
Cantate Domino, et benedicite nomini ejus; annuntiate de die in diem salutare ejus.
Annuntiate inter gentes gloriam ejus; in omnibus populis mirabilia ejus.
Quoniam magnus Dominus, et laudabilis nimis: terribilis est super omnes deos.
Quoniam omnes dii gentium daemonia; Dominus autem caelos fecit.
Confessio et pulchritudo in conspectu ejus; sanctimonia et magnificentia in sanctificatione ejus.
Afferte Domino, patriae gentium, afferte Domino gloriam et honorem;

About Cantate Domino
This vibrant SATB motet sets a powerful Latin text, calling for joyful praise to God. The words, drawn from a psalm of David, celebrate the Lord's greatness and wondrous deeds, urging all nations to announce His glory and salvation. Giovanni Rovetta's setting emphasizes this exultant message, with the four vocal parts weaving together to create a rich and celebratory sound. The music reflects the text's fervent invitation to offer God praise and honour, to bring Him glory, and to adore Him with sacrifices and in His holy courts. It is a piece designed to inspire awe and devotion, suitable for services or concerts where a grand sacred statement is desired.
