Canon SB

Stefano Pasino's Canon SB is a sacred work for two voices, Soprano and Bass. The piece explores a dialogue between two opposing forces, represented by the Italian text for 'Maria' and 'Demonio'. The 'Maria' section expresses a preference for righteous action, stating 'Right action alone pleases me, and for that reason I am against you.' In contrast, the 'Demonio' section declares 'Sin alone pleases me, and for that reason I am against you.' The contrasting sentiments are set within a canon, a contrapuntal compositional technique that builds complexity and tension through the imitation of a melody. The work also incorporates a Latin text, adding another layer to its sacred and dramatic character.
