Candide perle e care by Cornelius Schuyt — Lyrics
About Candide perle e care
The composer Cornelius Schuyt presents a secular Italian madrigal for SATTB choir. The text expresses the lover's plea to his beloved, likening her words to precious pearls emerging from rosy lips. These words, however, only serve to intensify his amorous suffering. He begs for sweet kisses to bring solace to his sorrowful heart, which feels both revitalised and drained of life by a slow-burning flame. Schuyt's setting captures the delicate yet passionate sentiments of the Renaissance text, making it a fine example of the secular part-music genre.
