CALYPSO CAROL by S.K. Coates, Sam Ojukwu — Lyrics
About CALYPSO CAROL
When the choir begins "Calypso Carol," the usual solemnity of the manger scene gives way to a bright, rhythmic energy. The bouncy calypso melody perfectly captures the eager joy of the shepherds hurrying to see the newborn King. It is a piece that naturally brings a smile to the faces of the congregation, lifting the spirit of any Christmas carol service or Mass during the festive season.
The verses paint a vivid picture of that holy night, contrasting the humble "draughty stable" and "bed of straw" with the grand title of the child, "The Prince of Glory." But it is the chorus that truly invites us in. Singing "O now carry me to Bethlehem," we are no longer just retelling an old story; we are asking to make the journey ourselves, stepping into the joy of the nativity to see the Lord appear to men.
