Calvary

This SAB setting of the spiritual Calvary is ideal for Lenten or Good Friday services. The text powerfully evokes the scene of the crucifixion, with direct references to Jesus' sacrifice and the sounds of the event itself. The repeating refrain, "Calvary, Calvary, surely he died on Calvary," anchors the listener in the solemnity of the occasion, while the intervening verses prompt reflection on the specific details of that pivotal moment in Christian history. Drewes’ arrangement for SAB choir allows for rich harmonic textures while remaining accessible, making it a fitting choice for choirs seeking to convey the profound emotional and theological weight of the Passion story.
