About Caccia d'Amore
Giovanni Gastoldi was a prolific composer of madrigals in the late Renaissance. His Caccia d'Amore is a secular Italian work for SSATB choir. The text depicts Love as an archer, armed with arrows and a torch, hunting for hearts. It playfully warns nymphs to flee, but concludes that it is better to surrender willingly to Love's power. The composer uses the 'fa la la' refrain, characteristic of the genre, to punctuate the narrative, adding a light and engaging texture to the madrigal's imagery of pursuit and surrender.
