Karel Bříza's setting of a responsory for two voices, S and T, is a sacred work in the Czech language. The text comes from a psalm, expressing profound devotion and trust in God. The singer or singers pledge to praise God with their whole heart, giving thanks for His steadfastness and for the strength He has granted. The words speak of God's goodness, faithfulness, and eternal love, and invoke His protection. A responsory is a form of liturgical chant, often sung antiphonally between a cantor and a choir.
