Byla cesta, byla ušlapaná — Lyrics
About Byla cesta, byla ušlapaná
This traditional Czech carol paints a scene of winter and hardship on the path to Bethlehem. The lyrics tell of the Virgin Mary's journey, meeting Saint Elizabeth on the way. Mary explains she is going to church to hear Mass, but Elizabeth warns her that she will soon give birth to a son. Mary reassures her that she will give birth during the Christmas festivities, when the waters are frozen. The carol concludes by confirming this prophecy, stating that Mary gave birth during the Christmas season when all the waters had frozen, save for the one where she went to fetch water to bathe the infant Jesus.
