About Boxing Day
The secular Christmas song Boxing Day opens by painting a scene of post-holiday joy, with toys scattered and magic in the air. Yet, it also acknowledges feelings of sadness, fear, or loneliness that can accompany the season. The refrain offers a comforting message, promising that Boxing Day is here to bring comfort and a reason to smile. The SATB choir will find this piece a poignant exploration of mixed emotions during the festive period, with the English text offering a relatable narrative. The music aims to capture both the lively spirit of the day and its underlying emotional currents, encouraging a sense of hope and shared experience.
