BOMBOYETI

"Bomboyeti" is a high-energy folk arrangement by Jude Nnam that never fails to get a congregation moving. Built on a driving, rhythmic chant, it is a favourite for cultural days, special choir presentations, and joyful recessions at the end of Mass. The piece relies heavily on its infectious groove rather than a long text, making it easy for the assembly to catch the spirit of the music.

The arrangement is a brilliant exercise in choral layering. It opens with a simple unison line before breaking into rich, polyphonic parts. While the sopranos and altos carry the bright "Siyoma bomboyeti" melody, the basses lay down a deep, percussive "bombo yeti" foundation that mimics traditional drums. By the time the tenors and basses take the lead on the second page, the whole choir loft is usually vibrating with the sheer joy of the rhythm.
