Bolton by Oliver Brownson — Lyrics

Alleluja, Aggaei et Zachariae. Lauda, anima mea, Dominum. Laudabo Dominum in vita mea; psallam Deo meo quamdiu fuero. Nolite confidere in principibus, in filiis hominum, in quibus non est salus. About Bolton

Oliver Brownson's Bolton is a striking SATB setting of Latin liturgical text. Its musical character is shaped by the interplay of the voices, creating moments of both grandeur and intimacy. The text, drawn from various biblical sources, begins with exclamations of praise and reflection, moving through scriptural passages that speak of reliance on God rather than earthly powers, and of God's provision and justice for the oppressed. The contrasting languages, Latin and English, add a further dimension, perhaps reflecting different liturgical traditions or a desire to bridge textual understanding for a wider congregation. This piece offers a rich harmonic and textural experience for a mixed-voice choir.
