Blessed Assurance by Mrs J. F. Knapp — Lyrics
About Blessed Assurance
"Blessed Assurance" is one of those foundational hymns that almost every choir member knows by heart. The moment the opening notes sound, a wave of comfort and confidence settles over the congregation. It is a song of absolute trust, declaring that our salvation and relationship with Jesus are secure.
In Nigerian parishes, we often sing this during Thanksgiving or as a Recessional hymn, sending the people out with a joyful, uplifting message. The refrain, "This is my story, this is my song," feels deeply personal yet wonderfully communal when hundreds of voices lift it up together.
This particular sol-fa arrangement lays out the classic four-part harmony clearly, making it straightforward for the choir to rehearse. The verses build from a quiet, personal reflection on being "born of His Spirit" to a triumphant declaration of being "filled with His goodness," giving the choir plenty of room to express the dynamic joy of the lyrics.
