Tarquinio Merula's Bianca neve ò Bianca is a secular Italian madrigal for two voices. The text expresses the pain of love, comparing the beloved's beauty to snow that wounds, yet ignites burning passion. The poet laments that his soul is afflicted and dying for this sweet tormentor. He pleads for pity, his wound only worsened by the inescapable beauty of his beloved, whose angelic eyes and divine graces are incomparable. He begs her, in mercy and love, to at least incline towards him, a miserable and sorrowful soul struck by her arrows of love.
