About Benedictus (Short Service)
This Benedictus by Orlando Gibbons is a setting of a well-loved canticle from the Latin liturgy, traditionally sung at Morning Prayer. The text expresses profound gratitude for God's promised redemption and salvation, recalling his covenant with Abraham and the prophets. Gibbons's SATB setting brings this ancient text to life with rich harmonies and a flowing melodic line, suitable for services during ordinary time or special occasions. The music captures the sense of awe and thanksgiving inherent in the words, providing a powerful choral experience for both choir and congregation.
