Benedictus "fuga ex una" by Antoine Brumel — Lyrics
About Benedictus "fuga ex una"
The Benedictus, part of the Mass Ordinary, is sung at the Sanctus. Its text proclaims "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord." This setting for two male voices is a canon, a contrapuntal form where one voice imitates another. The composer, Antoine Brumel, was a significant figure in late 15th- and early 16th-century Franco-Flemish polyphony, and this work showcases his skill in this imitative style. The Latin text is sung throughout, with the two voices entering successively to create a rich, interwoven sound. The canon's structure, where each voice follows the other precisely, offers a unique listening and singing experience, a testament to the ingenuity of Renaissance sacred music.
