Benedictus Dominus a 12

From the tradition of German sacred polyphony, Melchior Franck's Benedictus Dominus is a substantial motet for twelve voices, divided into four distinct choirs (SSST, SATB, AATB). The Latin text, drawn from scripture and possibly liturgical sources, presents a powerful affirmation of God's strength and protection in conflict. It invokes blessings upon those who fight in the Lord's name, recalling Old Testament heroes like Samson and Gideon who were aided by God's mighty hand. The text culminates in a call to rejoice and sing praises, reflecting the triumph and divine assistance described. This monumental work offers a rich and complex sound world, suitable for a large choral ensemble.
