Teodoro Riccio’s Benedictus Deus et pater offers a rich five-part choral setting for SATTB voices. This motet draws on sacred texts that speak of God as the father of mercies and the God of all consolation. The composer vividly illustrates the words, depicting how divine comfort in times of tribulation allows us to offer solace to others. As the passions of Christ abound in us, so too, through Christ, does our consolation. Riccio’s masterful counterpoint and harmonic language convey the profound message of spiritual reassurance and mutual support embedded within the sacred Latin verses.
