Benedicta sit Sancta Trinitas

Giovanni Croce’s Benedicta sit Sancta Trinitas is a rich SATTB motet for voices. The music opens with a noble homophonic statement of the text, a Latin prayer of praise to the Holy Trinity. The composer contrasts this with more imitative passages, creating a dynamic interplay between the vocal lines. The text, a prayer of thanks for God's mercy, is beautifully set, with the composer’s clear declamation of the sacred words enhanced by the luxuriant five-part harmony. The motet concludes with a joyful Alleluia and a doxology calling for praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
